Short answer: a standard 20-yard roll-off in Atlanta runs $475–$785. Unusually, the 30-yard — not the 20 — is Atlanta's most-rented size, at 53% of one broker's local orders.

Rental windows differ by source: Prime quotes 5-day rentals, Ultimate 7-day, ZTERS 10-day. Angi notes jobs outside the I-285 perimeter can add $50–$125 remote-haul fees. Cheaper North Atlanta (Milton/Forsyth) local prices were deliberately excluded from these ranges — a different submarket from the City of Atlanta. Your exact quote depends on debris type, how long you keep the bin, and how far the truck drives.

What makes the price move

Weight overages. Go over the included tonnage and most haulers charge roughly $50–$100 per extra ton. Heavy debris (concrete, dirt, shingles) hits the limit fast — that's what the smaller 10-yard "heavy debris" bins exist for.

Extra days. The standard rental is 7 days. Extra days typically run $10–$25 per day, or a flat fee per week. Ask before you book, not after.

Debris type. Clean construction debris is cheapest. Mixed household junk is mid-range. Tires, mattresses, appliances with refrigerant, paint and anything hazardous cost extra or are refused outright.

Do you need a permit in Atlanta?

Driveway, yard or private lot: no permit. Street, curb, sidewalk or alley placement needs a Right-of-Way Dumpster/POD permit from the Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT). The fee is structured by time and space, not flat: $20 plus a daily curb-lane charge — $10/day up to 100 linear feet, rising to $25/day over 300 feet (the city's Right-of-Way Manual, Appendix H). The trap (City Code §138-61): no street permit is issued unless you first demonstrate the dumpster cannot fit on private property. The application needs a $1M liability certificate naming the City of Atlanta, and in practice the hauler files it. Allow 3–5 business days. Metro cities and counties outside Atlanta run their own programs.

How to pay less

Book the size you're sure about, not the size you hope for — one 20-yard bin is cheaper than two 10-yard swaps. Keep the rental inside 7 days. Load heavy material evenly and don't fill past the rim; an overloaded bin gets refused and you pay a trip fee anyway. If your project is flexible, ask about weekday delivery pricing — some haulers discount off-peak drops.
